It’s probably fair to say that most (if not all) of the online independent music hubs have been patiently anticipating the next follow-up release from Danish quartet, Blaue Blume, who released the enchanting On New Years Eve earlier in 2013. German for 'blue flower' and symbolic of what is considered infinite and inspirational, Blaue Blume have returned with Helen - a complex and curious second release by a band best defined in genre by The Line Of Best Fit as ‘fatalist’ indie pop.

If the era of neo-noir cinema was modernised into a soundtrack for present day it would sound inherently Gold & Youth. They manage to humanise the quintessential elements of noir film, such as escapism, darkened landscapes and nostalgia, whilst bringing them into a contemporary context which draws upon the instrumentation of the 1980s. Whether it’s the light and shade of the 50’s anti-hero, or the sun-soaked synthetic-ness of an 80’s Los Angeles, Gold & Youth find comfort in the solitude of nostalgia.

BRIGHTER LATER

What was described as the genesis of Brighter Later began during a two year journey living in New Orleans where singer songwriter Jaye Kranz realised she wanted to start playing music again. Much of what is described in their debut album is reflective of this passage of time, stemming from the resultant reflections of being away from home. Recorded in a converted church, The Wolves alludes to winter recluses and is spoken with thoughtful and delicate production yet warmed with shy and becoming vocals. Brighter Later front woman, Jaye Kranz, discusses animal totems, songwriting and recording in a sacred space.
